In “Saltburn,” director Emerald Fennell made crowds consider whether they'd drink the bathwater.
And now in “Wuthering Heights” (in theaters Feb. 13), the British filmmaker is setting hearts ablaze with her equally saucy spin on Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel. Set to a throbbing pop soundtrack by Charli XCX, the lurid drama leans into the sadomasochism of Brontë’s original book, with a hot-blooded adaptation that would make your high-school English teacher’s eyes roll back.
Although “Wuthering Heights” is widely regarded as a literary masterpiece, there are elements of this new movie that may not be suitable for all audiences. Here’s what you before going in:

What is ‘Wuthering Heights’ about?

Set in 18th-century England, "Wuthering Heights" follows a willful young woman named Catherine Earnshaw (Margot Robbie) who longs for her childhood friend, the ruggedly handsome Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi). But after a betrayal by her servant and confidante, Nelly (Hong Chau), Catherine mistakenly believes that Heathcliff doesn't reciprocate her feelings. And so, they both settle for relationships with the well-to-do Edgar (Shazad Latif) and infantile Isabella (Alison Oliver), even as they privately yearn for each other.

“Wuthering Heights” is rated R for sexual content, some violent content and language. The movie begins with a hanging and ends with a pool of blood, but the bulk of the wounds are emotional. (Think spurned lovers and floods of tears.)

The stars of the upcoming Emerald Fennell adaptation of Emily Brontë's 1847 gothic novel have fans swooning over red carpet looks and press tour interactions. Margot Robbie, who plays Catherine Earnshaw, and Jacob Elordi, who portrays Heathcliff, stepped out in Los Angeles this week to promote the film, out in theaters on Feb. 13, 2026.
“Wuthering Heights” clocks in at 2 hours and 16 minutes. That makes it a touch longer than previous film adaptations starring Laurence Olivier, Ralph Fiennes and Kaya Scodelario, and roughly 36 times longer than the Kate Bush music video.
Is ‘Wuthering Heights' sexual?
"Barbie" favorite Margot Robbie is both the star and producer of "Wuthering Heights."
Much like Brontë's "wild, wicked" heroine, “Wuthering Heights” is an unbridled exploration of bottled-up lust and primal sexuality. Speaking of bridles – a horse’s headgear is used for perverse pleasure during one sequence, while Heathcliff and Catherine are prone to licking each other’s faces in the throes of passion.
But most of the movie’s sexual acts are merely suggested, like Heathcliff lying on top of Catherine while covering her face, or shoving his fingers in her mouth mid-foreplay. There is plenty of erotic imagery – dripping egg yolks, flesh-toned walls and plump kneaded dough – but the intimacy itself is rather tame.
Is there nudity in 'Wuthering Heights?'
"Wuthering Heights" heartthrob Jacob Elordi is riding high on his recent Oscar nomination for "Frankenstein."
Surprisingly, no. For a film that’s been heavily marketed as a sultry bodice-ripper, the most bare skin that you’ll see is a shirtless Elordi shoveling hay. Otherwise, the rain-soaked corsets and waistcoats stay on.
Is ‘Wuthering Heights’ appropriate for younger teens?
Catherine (Margot Robbie) feels trapped yet highly aroused in her affluent new life.
Children and preteens should steer clear of this film, although it should be fine for most high-schoolers. There is less nudity than in sweeping romances such as “Titanic” and “The Notebook,” but there is also one spicy, extended montage of Heathcliff and Catherine making love in a variety of places. Catherine at one point masturbates and Heathcliff performs oral sex under her skirt, although you don’t see anything explicit in either scene.
More importantly, “Wuthering Heights” is much darker than your average big-screen love story, as the central characters navigate their sexual desires, and reckon with power and control in the bedroom. The story is largely about obsession and cycles of abuse, so you’ll want to ensure that your teen is mature and comfortable enough to engage with those adult themes before seeing the movie.
When does ‘Wuthering Heights’ come out?
“Wuthering Heights” will be released in theaters Friday, Feb. 13, with previews starting the evening before on Thursday, Feb. 12.
