The philanthropic event brought support to breast cancer research across Central New York

Alec Baldwin and Stephen Baldwin helped raise over $250,000 for breast cancer research on Friday, Nov. 7, at The Baldwin Fund’s annual Gala.

While the philanthropic cause was deeply meaningful for the family, Alec’s trip home was far less smooth.

Held at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown, the gala brought out donors, researchers and advocates for an evening of tributes, awards and lively fundraising. The event supported The Baldwin Fund’s ongoing efforts to expand breast cancer research across the region and help Upstate Medical University achieve National Cancer Institute designation — a milestone that would bring increased research capabilities, attract top scientific talent and enhance patient care in Central New York.

Alec’s return trip hit an unexpected turn. After the fundraiser, two of his flights out of Syracuse were canceled amid travel issues linked to the government shutdown which began at on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Alec, 67, was one of many travelers affected over the weekend.

On Instagram, Alec shared his frustration while stuck at the airport, telling followers: “I’ve been at the airport for an hour and a half
they want me to wait another two hours before they decide whether they’re going to take off. Whatever you do during this shutdown, don’t fly to or from a major airport. It’s a complete waste of your time.”

After several delays, the Oscar-nominated actor opted to rent a car and drive himself back downstate.

In 1991, Alec and Stephen’s mom, Carol Baldwin, was diagnosed with breast cancer. “After she survived, she joined with a group of Long Island-wide breast cancer support groups to launch an effort with SUNY Stony Brook,” Alec shared about his mother in announcing her death in 2022.

The night’s program included the presentation of The Baldwin Fund’s 2025 Awards, recognizing standout scientists, doctors and philanthropic partners.

This year’s Grant Recipients (2024–2025) included Natalie Marie Arnold, Maria Engelbrecht, Jacqueline Stillitano and Lorraine Stillitano. Endowed Lectureships were named in honor of Nathan Doody, Alison Fineberg and John Nolan.

The Humanitarian Award was presented to Upstate NY’s She Matters, a community outreach program represented by Linda Veit, Rachel Ryan-Osiecki and Elizabeth Fuertes-Binde, honoring the program’s work “educating women on the importance of breast cancer screenings” and empowering women to access care.

The Figum Laudis Award recognized Ed Rogers for his long-standing dedication to the cause, while Vincent Cioci (Luck Grove Telecom), Matt Lorenzo (Mooney Marketing Group) and Nick Ford (Limp Lizard Bar & Grill) were honored for philanthropic contributions.

Alec and Stephen, 59, took the stage during a live auction, helping drive bidding on items, including an all-inclusive Sandals Resorts vacation, a baseball signed by Yankees star Aaron Judge and tickets to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“This cause is deeply personal to my family,” Stephen said during the event, “and I couldn’t be prouder of what the Baldwin Fund continues to accomplish. The generosity we witnessed at this year’s event — both from the community and from our partners — was truly inspiring.”
