Sometimes a casting choice practically makes itself.

Back in 2023, it was announced that Michael Jackson's nephew Jaafar Jackson had been cast to play the legendary musician in a biopic about his life slated for release on April 24, 2026. However, Jaafar is hardly the only actor to step into a famous relative's shoes on the big screen. O'Shea Jackson Jr., Colin Hanks and Mamie Gummer and more, have all paid homage to their relatives — whether that was in biopics or playing younger versions of their characters in the same project.

Below, see the stars who have played their relatives onscreen.

Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson in 'Michael'

Jaafar Jackson, son to Jermaine Jackson, will be playing his legendary uncle in the 2026 biopic, Michael, and no one is better for the job. Not only does the 29-year-old bear a resemblance to the Thriller hitmaker, but he's got access to all the people who knew his uncle best to help inform his acting choices.

O'Shea Jackson Jr. and Ice Cube

O'Shea Jackson Jr. is a spitting image of his dad, Ice Cube. But, even though he inherited his dad's famous scowl, his speech pattern and his mannerisms, the legendary rapper still had his junior audition before he got the role in the N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton.

"I auditioned for two years," O'Shea Jr. revealed while on The Drew Barrymore Show. "I had to work for it because I was just a guy off the couch and I've just been trying to make it work ever since."

Hero Fiennes-Tiffin and Ralph Fiennes

If you thought Hero Fiennes Tiffin's portrayal of Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was impressively gripping for a boy his age, it's because the thespian genes run in his family. The actor, who played young Tom Riddle, is the nephew (through his mother Martha) to actors Joseph Fiennes and, of course, Ralph, who plays the Dark Lord in the franchise.

These days, Ali Lohan keeps a low profile away from the spotlight, but back in the early aughts, the baby sister to Lindsay Lohan dabbled in the family business. In 2005, she played the younger version of her sister in Lindsay's music video for "Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)."

Tom Hanks & Colin Hanks

Won't you be my ... father? Hilarity ensued back in 2019 when one X user noticed that Tom Hanks and his son have shared one seriously classic cardigan: The Oscar-winning star played Mr. Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, while son Colin also played the role, only on an episode of Drunk History.

M. Lamar and Laverne Cox

Over the course of its seven seasons, Orange Is the New Black looked back on Sophia Burset's life before she transitioned. Luckily for writers, Laverne Cox, who portrayed the beloved prison hairstylist, has a twin brother in real life. M. Lamar played Burset in the show's flashbacks.

And when they needed someone to play a younger version of Dascha Polanco's character, Daya, in Orange is the New Black, they looked to her real-life daughter, Dasany.

Mark Conseulos and Michael Consuelos

Did Mark Consuelos rent a time machine to play a younger version of himself? Seems totally plausible, but no! His son, Michael Consuelos, stepped in to play the younger version of his Riverdale character, Hiram Lodge.

Perry and Metcalf played the same role in two series that took place decades apart. How's that possible? Well, Metcalf played Sheldon's mom, Mary Cooper, on the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory, and Zoey Perry took on the same role, only in the prequel, Young Sheldon.

Who better to play the younger version of Tina Fey's 30 Rock Character, Liz Lemon, than the younger version of Fey herself? Fey's daughter has her mom's facial expressions down.
