Jonathan and Ana Towns have filed a lawsuit against the producers of The Amazing Race. The controversial couple from the show claim that the series’ producers rigged the competition and created a smear campaign against them (him mostly), and they’re looking for compensation for being so badly portrayed.

This is actually not uncommon for reality TV. Many people see the way they look on shows and are unhappy with the edit. And yes, some reality personalities sue the networks. However, these defamation suits are usually hard to pursue, considering the contracts most individuals sign to appear on reality TV.
Their lawsuit, according to Deadline, claimed that Paramount, CBS, and the production companies ABC Signature and Jerry Bruckheimer Films rigged the competition. They claimed producers launched a “smear strategy so audacious and immoral that it would shock the conscience of even the most cynical propagandist.”
They are representing themselves and seeking $8 million in damages. In addition, they request a court injunction asking producers to re-edit the show with “appropriate disclaimers” as well as a public apology.
The claim goes on to say that they are not disputing the legitimate editorial judgment or discretion of the show. They are alleging (in plain speak) that the show had the materials necessary to depict Jonathan accurately and chose not to. Instead, they constructed a false and highly damaging portrayal.

Jonathan got a lot of backlash from the fans on the show for his treatment of Ana. He called her a “terrible partner,” told her to “stop whining,” and much more. Amid the backlash, Jonathan revealed that he was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) after the race, and this contributed to his behavior. He admits that he treated Ana poorly, but they have “come a long way” since.
Jonathan also claimed producers did little to help him when he was experiencing “clear emotional anguish” while on the show.
