Evans is among the all-star cast featured in **’s first look at *Sacrifice*, Netflix’s upcoming provocative thriller, which is also headlined by Anya Taylor-Joy, Salma Hayek Pinault, John Malkovich, Vincent Cassel, and Charli xcx.

Written by Romain Gavras and Will Arbery (*Succession*), the wild new film is the English-language debut from Gavras, whose credits include music videos for M.I.A, Jay-Z, and Kanye West, as well as the 2022 French epic feature *Athena*.

“It was like being a kid in a toy shop,” Gavras tells EW of his cast. “I feel very lucky that all these amazing actresses and actors came to Greece on this spectacular unconventional adventure with me.”

Before he returns to the MCU in *Avengers: Doomsday*, Evans leads *Sacrifice* as Mike Tyler, an insecure movie star looking to rebuild his image after a viral meltdown. And his step back into the spotlight starts at an environmental charity gala hosted by a billionaire entrepreneur (Cassel) and his wife (Hayek Pinault).

“While Chris is a mega movie star, he is also very smart and funny, which is the perfect combination to be at ease exploring and understanding the absurdity and intricacy that comes with this status: ego, loose sense of reality, delusion of grandeur, insecurities,” Gavras says of his captain. “I really think he delivers a performance we haven’t seen from him before.”

And this isn’t the type of movie that you often see. *Sacrifice* takes a turn when Joan (Taylor-Joy) and her radical group violently interrupt the night on their mission to fulfill a volcanic prophecy and cleanse the planet. What ensues is a hostage crisis that forces those in attendance to confront questions of belief, identity, and what they’re willing to sacrifice.

“We shot half the movie in a gigantic marble mine in Northern Greece that we turned into a gala venue for the purpose of the story,” Gavras reveals. “While everyone was in their fancy wardrobe and Gucci shoes, part of the mine was still working, excavating marble. It was beautiful organized chaos.”

The filmmaker aimed to blend high-stakes suspense, psychological drama, and dark comedy, resulting in a film that he believes is “built like a rollercoaster” and “offers what might be a solution to save a doomed world.”
