Mayson Perdue has been accused of ruining her mom’s old wedding dress after sharing a video of herself altering it for her own rehearsal dinner
While the strapless gown initially flowed beautifully to the ground, the bride had it cut and hemmed to stop just above her knees

A bride has been accused of ruining her mom’s old wedding dress after she had it altered for her own rehearsal dinner.
On March 30, Mayson Perdue shared a video on TikTok showing the process of “turning my moms wedding dress into my rehearsal dinner dress.”
After modeling her mother's dress — a simple, strapless gown with lace-up detailing in the back — in the first clip, the video cuts to a shot of Perdue trying on the gown again. But this time, it had been cut and hemmed to stop just above her knees.
She also included a photo of her smiling alongside what seemed to be her mom while wearing the reimagined dress at her rehearsal dinner.
“Yes I know… I should’ve just worn it as my wedding dress 🥲,” Perdue wrote in the caption.
Once people on TikTok saw the dress transformation, they were quick to share their disapproval, writing that she had “ruined” what started out as a perfectly good wedding gown.

“From elegant wedding dress … to a dress from Shein,” one user wrote, while another added, “From timeless to Temu.”
“This ruined my night — oh my god,” another user expressed.
In response to one commenter who emphasized that the dress was “so pretty before,” Purdue defended her decision by insisting that the gown would have sat in her mother’s closet, “never to be worn again… so why not make something sentimental of it?”
She also said that altering the dress was her mom’s idea after one user quipped, “If I was your mom I would cry.”
As for the dress Perdue chose to wear on her wedding day? Along with sharing photos of all the dresses she ultimately decided to pass on, she revealed a gown with a basque waist and matching gloves that she deemed perfect for her big day.
Although some users still insisted that her mom’s dress would have been the perfect pick in the comments, Perdue said that “there’s a purse made out of the fabric and lots of leftover pieces” to use in addition to her meaningful rehearsal dinner dress.
