Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves enjoyed a rare date night in New York City this week. The couple stepped out for dinner at Balthazar, a French restaurant in SoHo.
In pictures obtained by Backgrid, McConaughey, 56, tucked a khaki button-down into a pair of black trousers, adding on a leather belt, aviator sunglasses, and heeled boots. Alves, meanwhile, dressed down her silver pinstriped suit by wearing a black bandeau bra beneath her boxy blazer. The 43-year-old model accessorized with some colorful sneakers.

Alves and McConaughey tied the knot in 2012 and share three children: Levi, Vida, and Livingston.
Back in January, the Oscar winner discussed why his relationship with Alves takes “maintenance.”
Speaking with host Jay Shetty on his podcast “On Purpose,” McConaughey explained why it’s “humanly impractical” for a couple to be in the honeymoon phase forever.

“Honeymoon’s only in the perfection stage. It’s only up in the air,” he said.

McConaughey also said that constantly “seeking perfection” in a relationship is “unfair.”
“That’s a tough nut to handle when you project that on someone,” the actor shared. “Neither one of you can live up to it.”
“And this is not a popular statement with my wife, but—maybe I’m too practical about love, maybe I’m not romantic enough about it—I don’t see how the honeymoon period lasts forever,” McConaughey added.

He then compared marriage to the “dim” lighting of a “30-watt bulb.”
“Not as bright, but it’ll last longer and it’s more realistic for you and her,” he said. “It’s more human and it’s still lovely.”
“You vow to love each other in say, a marriage for instance—and it’s through sickness and health until death,” McConaughey continued. “My love’s not in question; that doesn’t mean it doesn’t take maintenance.”
