How do you say milkshake duck in French? Well, pop sensation Chappell Roan is finding out.
The "Good Luck, Babe!" singer recognized the passing of French film icon Brigitte Bardot on her Instagram Stories on Sunday. She wrote that the star of *And God Created Woman *and *Contempt* was "the inspiration for red wine supernova," adding, "rest in peace Ms. Bardot." Indeed, the opening line of the phenomenally catchy "Red Wine Supernova" is "She was a Playboy, Brigitte Bardot / She showed me things I didn't know."
For those with just a top-level knowledge of Bardot, who died at the age of 91 on Dec. 28, this would all seem totally fine. However, many online were quick to get Roan up to speed concerning some of Bardot's work outside of film.

In addition to making extreme statements about religious minorities and the LGBTQ+ community, Bardot was also a harsh critic of the #MeToo movement. All of which seems very much at odds with Roan's persona. (Go listen to the lyrics of "Pink Pony Club" for more on that.)
On Monday, though, word had clearly gotten through to a shocked and perhaps embarrassed Roan, who made a follow-up post. "Holy sh-- i did not know all that insane sh-- Ms. Bardot stood for obvs I do not condone this. very disappointing to learn," Roan wrote on Instagram Stories.

Bardot was born in Paris in 1934, and began a career in modeling at age 15. An acting career soon followed, as did a relationship with future director Roger Vadim, whom she married when she turned 18. Her first substantial role was in *Naughty Girl* in 1956, cowritten by her husband. The two soon collaborated on *And God Created Woman*, cementing her persona as a "sex kitten," as the English-language press called her at the time.
Later work included the comedy *Please, Not Now!* and Jean-Luc Godard's *Contempt*, before becoming a successful recording artist. She stopped making films in 1973, capping her career with a photo shoot in *Playboy *magazine. She then focused on animal rights advocacy.
Roan's next tour dates are set for February 2026 in New Zealand and Australia, followed by shows in Buenos Aires, Santiago, and São Paolo in March.
