Actor Ed Burns reveals his and Christy Turlington's decision to keep their children out of the spotlight growing up
He says it's why they're so well-adjusted and why he and Turlington are still 'happily married'
He also previously told PEOPLE he and Turlington were never gone at the same time because of work
Actor and director Ed Burns is getting candid about parenting.
In the new episode of the Maury Povich podcast On Par With Maury Povich, the Family McMullen actor and director, 58, opened up about his 22-year marriage with model Christy Turlington, and the decision they made to keep their family life private once they had daughter, Grace, 21, and son, Finn, 19.
"We made a choice, and I think part of the reason we're still very happily married and our kids are in a great place was we never took them to a movie premiere, we never took them to any entertainment event, ever."
"We just wanted them to think of their parents as mom and dad, with all the other mom and dads."

"I think the big thing for us is, given both of our careers, we absolutely never traveled at the same time," he said.
"So, we'd look at, if a job came up for me or a job came up for her, we would have to make a decision. If they happened at the same time, someone would have to pass, so that somebody was always home."

"That was the bigger rule that we had. We agreed on that early on, and fortunately, it really worked out for us, and I think more importantly, worked out for the kids," he added.
During his interview with Povich, Burns also got candid about how he first met his supermodel wife.

"We have a funny story about Entertainment Tonight," Burns told Povich, noting that he was a PA on the news show before he was a filmmaker, and he had to get her a glass of water when she was on to promote a photography book.
"She was doing an interview...and then years later, right after Brother McMullen, we met at a Knicks game...she's from the Bay Area, so she was a Golden State Warriors fan, and they were playing the Knicks, so we met briefly there in '95, and then we met again in 2000, married in 2023."
