In the laboratory that is Hollywood, there have been so, so many "Frankenstein" movies, as well as big-screen variations on Mary Shelley's theme. And with all those iterations came Frankenstein's monsters of assorted degrees of beauty.

In other words: Hot or not.

The latest addition to the canon is getting rave reviews for his looks. Jacob Elordi is a pretty handsome dude on the regular, and on social media, fans have been digging his Creature in Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein" (streaming now on Netflix). One user on X wrote that he was "all that" while another confessed to feeling "womanly things" for Elordi's monster.

Shelley was going for hotness in her original 1818 "Frankenstein" novel, with Victor Frankenstein having "selected his features as beautiful," so del Toro and Elordi understood the assignment. Other similarly themed Creatures in movie history have been a little rougher around the edges.

Elizabeth (Mia Goth) shares a moment with the newborn Creature (Jacob Elordi) in Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein."

So which "Frankenstein" creations are we swiping right on? Here's how Elordi ranks with the rest of his cinematic ilk, who range from frightening to fabulous:

15. Robert De Niro ('Mary Shelley's Frankenstein,' 1994)

Yikes. This is a face only Frankenstein's mom would love, put together like a slapdash jigsaw puzzle with the help of an industrial-grade stapler. He does have intelligence and eloquence going for him, which helps!

14. Christopher Lee ('The Curse of Frankenstein,' 1957)

Baron Frankenstein (Peter Cushing, center) leans over the monster (Christopher Lee) he has created in "The Curse of Frankenstein."

You didn't have to do too much to Lee makeup-wise, since the horror icon was unnerving enough naturally. His take on the monster looks like a British guy with a blind eye who got into a row at the local pub.

13. Fred Gwynne ('Munster, Go Home,' 1966)

Personality goes a long way for the smiliest of all Frankenstein monsters. So what if he had a gravity-defying forehead? Herman Munster was a devoted husband and dad, drove cool cars and rocked some sweet platform shoes.

12. Shuler Hensley ('Van Helsing,' 2004)

Shuler Hensley plays Frankenstein's monster in the horror-movie mashup "Van Helsing."

Everybody in this action-packed Hugh Jackman/Kate Beckinsale monster mashup is weirdly attractive. This Frankenstein's monster is akin to a massive offensive lineman with some big dad energy.

11. Peter Boyle ('Young Frankenstein,' 1974)

There's a gentle sort of quality to Boyle's baby-faced monster with male pattern baldness. Where his character stands out in the Mel Brooks comedy classic is throwing on a tux and showing off suave dance moves to "Puttin' on the Ritz."

10. Aaron Eckhart ('I, Frankenstein,' 2014)

Aaron Eckhart rocked a hoodie/overcoat ensemble as Adam Frankenstein in "I, Frankenstein."

Eckhart's sci-fi horror hero, Adam Frankenstein, has a few gnarly scars but mainly keeps the actor's rugged handsomeness. Plus, pairing a hoodie with a stylish overcoat, our made man knows how to accessorize.

9. Boris Karloff ('Frankenstein,' 1931)

Boris Karloff starred as the iconic monster in the 1931 horror classic "Frankenstein."

Yes, he's got the bolts in his neck and grunts a lot. Yes, you might run away screaming on a first date. But the dude's got one of the most iconic looks in pop culture history, so that's not too shabby.

8. Emma Stone ('Poor Things,' 2023)

Emma Stone stars as the wide-eyed, reanimated Bella Baxter in the Oscar-nominated "Poor Things."

Bella Baxter's corpse is reanimated with a baby's brain so there isn't the usual Frankenstein-y facial accoutrements. The initial infantile nature is strange, but she evolves into quite the pretty woman, all things considered.

1 / 20From 'Zootopia 2' to 'Running Man,' exclusive peeks at the holiday season's top movies

Cynthia Erivo takes flight again as the magical Elphaba in "Wicked: For Good." Check out our exclusive peeks at the anticipated movie musical sequel and all the other new films you need to see this holiday season.

7. Cole Sprouse ('Lisa Frankenstein,' 2024)

Lisa Swallows (Kathryn Newton) attempts to keep the Creature (Cole Sprouse) from doing something rash in "Lisa Frankenstein."

Literally, a goth girl's dream guy come true. In the feminist spin on Shelley's narrative, Sprouse's creature is an accidentally resurrected, genteel undead Victorian man absolutely devoted to his "creator." Swoon.

6. Jennifer Beals ('The Bride,' 1985)

"She'll break a few hearts," a character says of Beals' Eva in the gothic horror romance. That's for sure, as the "Flashdance" star gets herself in a love triangle with Sting's Baron Frankenstein and Clancy Brown's monster.

5. Johnny Depp ('Edward Scissorhands,' 1990)

Johnny Depp is the title character and Winona Ryder is the love interest in Tim Burton's "Edward Scissorhands."

Depp's title character in Tim Burton's gothic fantasy romance is a quirky invention, with blades for hands, but you can't knock his leather wardrobe or that deer-in-headlights facade. Another one for the goth kids in the house.

4. Kelly LeBrock ('Weird Science,' 1985)

A couple of hormonal teen boys decide to channel their inner mad scientist and create the perfect woman. Which, in the mid-1980s, was LeBrock in a crop top. Way to go, youngsters.

1 / 26Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth attend 'Frankenstein' premiere at LA's Academy Museum

Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, known for his stunning dark fantasy and gothic horror films, is breathing new life into Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein."Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz round out the film's cast. Fans of the gothic lit book can see Elordi portray Frankenstein's Monster in theaters Oct. 17 and then stream on Netflix Nov. 7. The cast celebrated the Los Angeles premiere on Oct. 6 at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles. Scroll through for more photos from the gothic black carpet.

3. Jacob Elordi ('Frankenstein,' 2025)

Jacob Elordi gives a touching portrayal as the Creature in Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein."

There's a beautiful tragedy to Elordi's performance as the Creature in the latest "Frankenstein" reinvention. And somehow, the various patchwork prosthetics end up accentuating the Australian actor's leading-man magnetism.

2. Peter Hinwood ('The Rocky Horror Picture Show,' 1975)

Rocky (Peter Hinwood) is comforted by Janet (Susan Sarandon) in the cult classic musical "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

Frankenstein's monster as gym bro? It works in the cult classic musical, where Tim Curry's Dr. Frank-N-Furter makes himself a ripped blond guy that gets the Charles Atlas seal of approval.

1. Elsa Lanchester ('The Bride of Frankenstein,' 1935)

Elsa Lanchester is the Bride opposite Boris Karloff's monster in "The Bride of Frankenstein."

From that infamous electrified coif and chef's kiss of a hiss to a perfect balance of sexy and scary, Lanchester's Bride is still the kind of horror hottie, 90 years later, that most scream queens and final girls only hope to be.

This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Jacob Elordi is one hot Frankenstein monster. Who's the hottest?
