Jessica Simpson and ex Eric Johnson are still living together in their Hidden Hills, Calif., family home, a source tells PEOPLE

The exes are looking to sell the property, which has been on and off the market, as they prioritize their kids and maintain an amicable co-parenting relationship

A few days before announcing their split in January 2025, the former couples previously listed the home for $17.9 million

Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson are still living together in their Hidden Hills, Calif., home more than one year after their split.

A source tells PEOPLE that Simpson, 45, and Johnson, 46, are living in the family house together but are looking to let go of the property and “figure out the best path forward” following their separation.

“He's been living there, but they're working on selling the house,” the source says of the exes. “The goal has been to keep everything as stable and as friendly for the kids as possible.”

The insider adds, “They still have a great relationship. They're still co-parenting. The main goal is the kids, but they're moving toward next steps.”

Regarding reports that Johnson is living in a new house nearby, the source says, “He's not right now, but that is what the plan is."

At the moment, Simpson is “focused on her kids. She's focused on her music right now, her career, getting back to work, and that's it,” the source adds.

Simpson and Johnson first listed it for sale on Jan. 11, 2025, just a few days before the singer confirmed to PEOPLE exclusively that they were separating.

According to property records, the $17.9 million home has been on and off the market since then, and it was most recently de-listed on Jan. 8 this year.

The property served as the family home of the singer and the retired NFL player before the couple split after ten years of marriage. Simpson and Johnson have lived in there with their three children — daughters Maxwell "Maxi" Drew, 13, and Birdie Mae, 7, and son Ace Knute, 12 — since 2013.

Before its January 2025 listing, the home was put up for sale once before in September 2023 with a higher price tag of $22 million. However, the listing was later removed in August 2024.

The property is spread out across 11,000 square feet and features six bedrooms and ten bathrooms. According to a previous listing for the home, it also boasts a four-car garage, a large pool with a separate shallow pool, a hot tub, a BBQ island and an outdoor shower.

While confirming her separation from Johnson, Simpson told PEOPLE at the time that it was a very “painful situation” for the pair.

"Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage," she told PEOPLE in a statement. "Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."

"I feel like we get caught up in numbers," Simpson told PEOPLE at the time. "Like, 'Oh, at 45, would I think that I would be single again as a mom of three?' Absolutely not. That was not how I planned it. But it's just a part of what destiny holds for me."

Despite their split, Simpson and Johnson remain amicable. The exes spent Thanksgiving together last year, with Simpson telling TMZ at the time that family will always come “first” for her.
