- In March, John Oliver used his show *Last Week Tonight* to lobby for a role on a soap opera.

- Oliver announced on Sunday's episode that he's been cast on *General Hospital*.

- The comedian will appear in three episodes airing in July.

What began as one of John Oliver's bits is now actually happening, as the host of HBO's *Last Week Tonight* heads to *General Hospital*.

Oliver had pleaded for a "juicy" role on a soap opera on the March 8 episode of his HBO show, specifically citing *General Hospital*. The Emmy winner then announced on the June 28 episode that, yes, audiences will see him in Port Charles.

The role isn't just a cameo either, with him simply walking by or running into a character at a coffee shop. It's "significant," according to a news release from the show. In fact, he will appear on three episodes, airing July 2, 3, and 6.

He's already finished shooting.

"*General Hospital *was everything I hoped it would be," Oliver said. "It's a true honor to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show."

The 23-time Emmy winner had argued that he wanted to have a part in the dramatic storylines of soaps, because he's a big fan.

"Where else can an imposter nurse be shot in a hospital? Or a woman be possessed by the devil?" he asked in March. "Not to sound like an iconic mermaid, but I want to be part of that world."

He told soaps clearly, "I am officially offering myself to you. Write me a role, and I'll be on your set so fast, it'll make your head spin."

He said then that he didn't want to play himself. He had big ideas about what he would do, though.

"I want to be a character. And I want his name to be ridiculous," Oliver said. "Also, I want to do something juicy — like murder or slapping or being slapped or being someone's long-lost something — and, ideally, I'd like a dramatic close-up of my face."

He should find just that on *General Hospital*.

"When John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to appear on a soap," executive producer Frank Valentini said, "we didn't hesitate for a second. He was everything you’d hope he’d be: prepared, professional, funny, and genuinely kind to everyone on set. He plays an integral character in the story, and I can’t wait for fans to see who he crosses paths within Port Charles."

Oliver will also be seen on an upcoming episode of *Days of Our Lives*, on which he was cast following his plea.

*General Hospital *airs weekdays on ABC and streams on Hulu.
