Kristen Bell is giving fans a glimpse of her private family life with husband Dax Shepard and their two kids, in honor of daughter Lincoln’s birthday.

“13 years ago today we had our first baby girl ❤️,” Bell, 45, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, March 28. “Getting to know her wit, compassion, and sense of adventure has brought us a kind of joy we didn’t have a word for before we met her. She reminds us every day that family is literally the best of it- the real stuff. (And also to never under estimate how good it feels to hold someone’s hand).”

She continued, “Parenting is, for me, both the hardest and best thing I’ve ever done. Thank you to all the role models we have had for our girls(I’m looking at you Mrs Browne!!!) and to the village who taught us how to be parents. Getting to love this kid is the greatest job on earth. Happy 13th birthday baby girl ❤️.”

In the comments section, Shepard, 51, wrote, “😭😭😭😭😭.”

Alongside the message, Bell shared a series of rare photos and videos through the years of her and Shepard with Lincoln and youngest daughter Delta, 11. In one clip, the two girls jumped up and down while wearing party hats as they greeted Shepard at the door and gave him a big embrace.

Bell and Shepard — who tied the knot in 2013 — have largely kept their kids out of the public eye, but have opted to share several parenting moments through the years. In a November 2025 episode of his “Armchair Expert” podcast, Shepard recalled having a conversation with a friend who “very kindly” mentioned that his and Bell’s daughters aren’t afraid to share their opinions.

“They’re kind of shook with how our daughters will talk back to us or to anybody because it’s very un-Southern, right?” Shepard explained. “Down there, everyone’s like, ‘Hi, Ms. Kristen. Hi, Mr. Dax.’”

While Shepard explained that “there’s value” in having manners, he noted that he’s proud of his and Bell’s daughters for being vocal.

“I can understand where that seems completely unruly, but I want you to know what I’m prioritizing, which is when they’re 19 and their boss is a f***ing creep, I want them to talk back,” he recalled. “I want them to be disrespectful. I want them to always advocate for themselves, whether I think they’re right or wrong.”

Shepard noted that he’s “willing to deal” with what others might consider “embarrassing” behavior from his girls to ensure they feel empowered when they are older.

“I can handle that,” Shepard concluded. “Because I want this other thing for them as women.”
