The driver responsible for three deaths in the Putman family has been sentenced to a year in jail.

Pavel B. Shchukin, whom PEOPLE reported was the motorist involved in the September crash that killed three members of the *Meet the Putmans* family, was sentenced to 1 year in jail on Dec. 9 after pleading no contest to three misdemeanor counts of moving violation causing death, according to Michigan court records reviewed by **.

In September, Isabelle Putman announced that her grandfather "Papa" Bill Putman, her grandmother "Neenee" Barb Putman, and her aunt Megan Putman were killed in a "tragic car accident" in a post on the official Instagram for the family's follow-up YouTube series, *Growing Up Putman*.

Isabelle included that Blake — son of Bill and Barb and husband to Megan — was also injured in the accident, as were his children Noah, Lulu, and Alena, and his niece Gia. On Oct. 10, she provided an update stating that Blake, Lulu, and Alena had all been discharged from the hospital, and on Oct. 20, she said that Noah had been moved to out-patient rehabilitation at the University of Michigan.

Isabelle briefly addressed Shchukin's sentencing in a statement on Instagram on Dec. 9. "Today, three months later, is both the plea and sentencing of the man who caused the accident where our family will speak to him in the courtroom for the first time," she wrote. "One might say that our family deserves a break, that we've endured enough. But although our earthly bodies may be broken and hurting and exhausted and want that break, our hearts and souls are still crying out to God, 'Use me, dear God! Take this and use it for good!'"

On Christmas Day, Isabelle said that Gia, who has had 10 major surgeries in the last three months, still "has a very long road to recovery ahead," and shared some of the preparations that the family is taking in anticipation of her return home, including "installing a ramp, setting up a hospital bed, wheelchair, arranging neuro rehab closer to home, and in-home nursing." She said that the family is "praying to bring her home to continue rehab closer to home around the end of January."

TLC's *Meet the Putmans* chronicled the lives of Bill and Barb Putman alongside their four adult children and an abundance of grandchildren, all of whom lived under one roof in a single intergenerational home. The show ran for six episodes in 2017.

The family later launched a follow-up series, *Growing Up Putman*, on YouTube in 2021. Their channel's most recent activity came in October with a livestream of Bill, Barb, and Megan's funeral.
