Theresa Post and her daughter, Victoria Post, were thrift shopping when she found one of the bridesmaid dresses used at her 1989 wedding

The mom noted that all her bridesmaids had kept the dresses after the wedding and likely donated that example to the thrift shop over the last few years

The dress boasted a $150 price tag — much higher than what the dress was initially worth in the 1980s

A mother and daughter who went thrift shopping found an unexpected gem!

Victoria Post, 32, and her mom, Theresa Post, had been looking through the offerings on a rack at a local thrift shop when the latter picked out a dress and held it up, according to the New York Post.

The dress featured a round-neck black top, which transitioned to a white tulle skirt at the bottom. It featured a more old-fashioned style with puff sleeves and a v-line at the waist, which provided a stark contrast between the top and bottom of the dress.

Theresa eventually recognized the dress as she held it up — it had been the same one that her six bridesmaids wore to her 1989 wedding to her husband, John.

“We were all stunned!,” said Long Island, New York resident Victoria, per the NY Post. “Our first thought was who dropped it off at the thrift? Which one of your bridesmaids?”

Theresa noted, per the NY Post, that her six bridesmaids had opted to keep their dresses after the wedding, and assumed that one of them eventually donated it to the thrift store over the last few years.

“When we got home, my mom took out her wedding album and it is the same style, color, fabric and all!” Victoria added.

While the discovery shocked the mother-daughter duo, they ultimately decided not to buy the dress at the thrift shop due to its high price. They shared that it cost a whopping $150.

“My mom and I laughed at the price,” Victoria recalled, per the NY Post. “Considering what she’d paid in the 80s, it had certainly appreciated in value.”

Theresa said that the price tag was nearly double what she had initially paid for the dresses, as they had been just under $100 in the 1980s.

While they did not go home with the dress, the mother and daughter said that they ultimately came away with a great story, and they hope the dress finds a new home.

“It’s nice to think it will carry on and be loved by many others!,” Victoria said of the dress.
