Iverson Poff and his mom, Stephanie, went viral after filming a mother-son 'fit check together on TikTok
The Oregon-based mom and son open up to PEOPLE about the "overwhelming" experience, their personal style and their relationship
Loving his mom, Poff tells PEOPLE, “is the easiest thing I’ll do in my lifetime.”
A mother and son are winning hearts on social media by showing off their personal styles — and the love they have for each other.
It all started when Iverson Poff featured a special guest, his “sparkly sparkly” mom Stephanie, in a ‘fit check, capturing attention from the brands she wore, drawing comparisons to style icons like the late Diane Keaton and earning lots of comments about how sweet the Oregon-based mother-son duo is.
Asked what made him want to post the Jan. 27 TikTok, which has amassed over 570,000 views, Poff, 23, tells PEOPLE that his “mom has always killed it when it comes to styling herself,” something he “wanted to showcase” with the video. Says Poff, “I knew everyone would love my mom cause what’s there not to love! She’s always been an inspiration and role model to look up to!”
Stephanie, 61, meanwhile, had some reservations about appearing in the video, in which she rocked a statement dress and leather trench coat, about to head out the door to her “company Christmas party.” Put simply, she tells PEOPLE, she was “nervous — super nervous!”
“I admit to probably showing my age in this arena, since I don’t really know why anyone cares about any video I am in and what I am wearing. But I trust that Iverson would never involve me in something questionable or that could hurt me,” she says, “So I am happy to go with the flow.”
The Oregon mom adds that she “didn’t even really know what” a ‘fit check was when she agreed to film it with her son — “which is obvious in that video,” she jokes — “but his enthusiasm was contagious. And it has turned out to be a fun thing to do together.”
With the video, the stylish mom and her equally stylish, doting son gave people plenty to smile about, as evidenced by the over 1,100 comments it inspired. “The cutest thing about this is seeing the love between you,” one person wrote, while another penned, “Everyone saying mom is so cute (she is) but their relationship is so wholesome.”
Asked to share a bit about their mother-son relationship, Stephanie says, “I wouldn’t know how to begin. I adore this child! All of my kids are adopted, and it has just been such a great adventure and honor to raise them and love them. Each has changed me and made me a better person, and I am so grateful for that.”

Poff, she says, is “super tuned into me and has always been loving and thoughtful. He takes really good care of me and makes me feel loved — all of my kids do — and that is a pretty precious thing for a momma.”
And it’s always been like that. When she underwent foot surgery when Poff was just 3 years old, he would bring her snacks without asking and check on her “constantly,” she recalls. “And one day, when I wanted to take a shower, he brought me a towel and sat outside my bathroom door to ‘make sure I was safe.’ I would hear this dear little voice asking, ‘Momma, you okay?’ ‘Momma, you safe?’ ‘Don’t fall, Momma.’ ”
“He is a great hype man and enjoys cheering me on,” she adds of her ‘fit check costar. “We just love spending time together and we have a lot of fun. He has always been my buddy.”

For his part, Poff tells PEOPLE that loving his mom “is the easiest thing I’ll do in my lifetime.”
“My relationship with my mom has been nothing but love,” he tells PEOPLE. “Growing up adopted, I always knew there was someone who brought me here on this Earth but that didn’t matter to me. My mom and dad stepped up and raised me when the people who brought me here didn’t.”
The TikTok creator adds that he loves Stephanie “more than words can describe,” he says, adding that the duo has “a special kind of relationship, the one where it kind of just makes you smile when you see.” Plus, he says, she has the “biggest heart,” and “always taught me to be kind, loving, and compassionate to anyone, no matter their background.”
Looking back on his upbringing, Poff says he “learned by watching her and how she interacted with people,” which, in part, is “why some are confused how we’re not blood-related.” It’s “mind–boggling to see us together,” he adds. “She’s always been my best friend and she always will be.
As for all of the comments about their personal styles — Poff’s go-tos include T-shirts and “baggy pant” while his mom loves classic, feminine, modest styles” — and the visible adoration between them, the duo both described the response as a bit overwhelming.
“This has been the most overwhelming part for me,” Stephanie tells PEOPLE. “Everyone has been so kind! I truly expected that people would just think I was a dork, if they even watched it, and I was super stressed and worried that the comments would be unkind. I have been truly grateful for everyone’s kindness and sweet comments!”
“They have melted my heart and I am just so genuinely surprised,” she adds. “Iverson loves to come read them to me or send me screenshots and it just makes my day!”

“I didn’t expect it to go as viral as it did,” he says, “but I will say it has been really awesome to see there hasn’t been a single hate comment on any of our posts!”
“I feel like with everyone that’s producing content on the internet, there’s always going to be some sort of hate in the comments, but there hasn’t been any of that!” he continues. “I didn’t expect there to be any hate, but seeing how much love and positive comments has truly been something to just be so grateful and thankful for!”

Even when his mom isn’t in his videos — she has since appeared on his TikTok account for another mother-son ‘fit check — Poff’s content centers on fashion, which he says has always “been a way for me to show others how I’m feeling, or just show that I am not a scary person.”
The Oregon resident says he has “always felt like an anomaly,” and has not “ever met someone that has the same style or same thoughts and feelings towards fashion.”
“I’m a mixed kid, so obviously I’m going to get stared at, which is unfortunate but the truth,” he adds, “so I might as well have a fun outfit on so I can show whoever that I’m not scared of standing out cause I already do!”
The past few years, the 23-year-old adds, have “taught me that it doesn’t matter where you came from or who brought you on this earth — it’s about who could show up and love and care for you.”
“That’s my girl,” he adds of his mom. “I love her more than just about anything.”
