Naomi Watts is celebrating a major accomplishment for her son.

On Tuesday, May 12, The Friend star, 57, shared a congratulatory message to her son Sasha, 18, after he shared an Instagram post celebrating the completion of his first year of college. In the 10-photo carousel, the teen posted a few memories from the year, including a sweet picture of him and his mom sharing a meal together. "Year one & done," he simply captioned the post.

Resharing the post on her Instagram Stories, Watts congratulated her son on finishing his first year at the University of Southern California.

"Congrats for finishing your first year Sasha!!" she wrote.

Watts and her then-boyfriend Liev Schreiber welcomed their first child, son Sasha, in 2007, and their second child, daughter Kai, in 2008, before ending their 11-year relationship in 2016. The former couple has been open about remaining friends and putting their children first.

“We’re doing things very differently. I’m pretty proud of us, corny as that may sound,” Watts told Net-a-Porter in August 2019. “We’ve made it our absolute priority to be good and kind to each other and we’re absolutely committed to that.”

Watts and Schreiber have reunited plenty of times since their amicable split. They appeared in a TikTok video with their children in 2020 and celebrated Kai’s middle school graduation in 2022 alongside Watts’ now-husband Billy Crudup and Schreiber’s now-wife Taylor Neisen.

In August, the actress shared a series of photos on Instagram as she moved Sasha into college for his freshman year at the University of Southern California. In one photo, the teenager could be seen sitting on his bed in his new dorm room as his mom proudly snapped his picture.

“We packed and unpacked, stacked and color coded. We walked and walked, woke up early with excitement,” Watts wrote in her caption. “Then we shopped and shopped, and sometimes fought about stupid stuff... We laughed, we cried, I had a few extra secret cries and maybe some not so private ones. We hugged a lot. We built things, we talked to robots, we ate good food. We got lost a bunch."

The Feud star added, “We met so many great people. We had deep talks mixed in with a few fart jokes... 🤣 then gave advice about how the world works. But then remembered: he's got this!! He did it!! He dreamed big and worked really hard for something wonderful. Go @sashapeteschreiber – we love you so much. #usc.”

Then, in October, during Watts' appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she detailed her experience going to a party with her son. Watts started by telling host Jimmy Kimmel that it was an immediate "yes" when her son asked if she and The Morning Show star wanted to go to the bash when they landed in Los Angeles. The doting mom added that she didn't really know how college parties work since she's not American, but added that it's been years since her children have been interested in hanging out with her.

"They're like rolling their eyes and everything you say is boring or out-of-date, so when you get an invitation, it's a hard yes," she said. "It just so happened, though, that the invitation came at, you know, I had to be there at 10:00 at night."

Watts shared that she and Crudup didn't stay at the party for long after they arrived.

"We stayed about 25 minutes," she admitted. "We walked through. The music was good. You know, I didn't want to dance or anything and embarrass my son, but I did see like these sort of open ceiling and I thought, 'Oh dear, there's a pipe hanging down that that's surely going to hurt someone and hit them in the face or something.'"

The actress went on to share that the "exciting part" about the story is that she knows she probably wasn't supposed to be invited to the party. She said, "Well, that's this is the exciting part of the story is like we probably weren't supposed to be there, but my son actually maybe just wanted to see us."
