Pete Davidson made a surprise return to his Saturday Night Live roots this weekend, giving an update on his bonkers ferry purchase.

The comedian and his former costar Colin Jost addressed the "money-losing fiasco" surrounding their Staten Island Ferry, as reported by the The New York Times, when he crashed the latest edition of "Weekend Update," with Davidson also making a quip about his controversial appearance at the Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

"In case you're wondering why I had to do a show in Saudi Arabia, we're losing millions on this ferry," the SNL alum said. "I assume that's what the article says. I can't spend $5 on a paywall when I got a kid on the way."

Davidson and Jost bought a decommissioned ferry in 2022 for $280,100. Since then, they have shared plans to turn the vessel into a hybrid restaurant and event space, though Davidson said in 2023 that they were "definitely five years away" from completing the project.

However, as the years have passed, the Staten Island natives' plans for the ferry were "no closer to being realized," according to The New York Times, and Jost's wife, Scarlett Johansson, suggested they sell the boat for scrap metal.

Jost and Davidson have previously joked about having buyer's remorse, with the latter claiming that they were "very stoned" when they purchased the ferry. Jost, however, refuted this, saying he was "stone-cold sober" at the time. Regardless of their feelings before, the duo insist they are pushing ahead with their vision for the ship, aptly named Titanic 2.

"If Lorne Michaels has taught us anything, it's that you never, ever give up," Davidson said, cueing up his punchline. "Even if everyone says the time has come and Tina Fey is ready to take over."

Davidson even has an idea for how to transform the seemingly doomed ferry purchase into a more lucrative endeavor: by turning it into a "new Staten Island," where everyone who claimed they'd abandon New York City if Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor can relocate.

The SNL star may have to put his ambitions on hold for now, as he is currently expecting his first child with his girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, a project he plans to give "all the energy and enthusiasm I never had for this show."
