NBC’s “Weekend Today” is entering a new phase following Peter Alexander’s unexpected departure. The longtime anchor recently announced he will be stepping away after more than two decades with the network, citing family priorities and a demanding schedule. His exit has left a notable gap in the weekend lineup, prompting speculation about who could step in next. Now, an unofficial poll is spotlighting several familiar faces as potential successors.

Unofficial list of Peter Alexander’s replacement doing the rounds

Following Peter Alexander’s on-air announcement that he will step away from “Weekend Today,” an informal list of possible replacements has begun circulating online. While NBC has not confirmed any frontrunners, a poll by TV Insider is offering insight into who could potentially take over the weekend anchor desk.

Alexander, who spent 22 years with NBC News, cited personal reasons for his departure. He shared that the constant travel between Washington, D.C., and New York had taken a toll, revealing he had spent “more than 220 Friday nights” away from his family in recent years. His decision, he said, was rooted in wanting a better work-life balance and more time with his wife and daughters.

With his exit leaving a notable gap, attention has turned to several NBC personalities who are already familiar to viewers. Among them is Joe Fryer, a longtime “Weekend Today” contributor who frequently steps in as a fill-in host. His existing connection to the show has led some to speculate he could be a natural fit.

Savannah Sellers is another name gaining traction. Though not a regular on the weekend program, she has filled in across various NBC broadcasts and brings strong reporting experience. Similarly, Kaylee Hartung has been mentioned as a contender, given her on-air presence and versatility. However, her commitments to sports coverage could complicate scheduling.

Other names include Brian Cheung and Gadi Schwartz, both of whom have built visibility across NBC’s news platforms. Vicky Nguyen has also been highlighted, though some reports suggest her current workload may make the transition challenging.

It’s important to note that these names are based on speculation and internal polling rather than confirmed decisions. NBC has not publicly indicated who, if anyone, is leading the race for the role.
