Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing “blackmail” claims over their alleged security demands. Last month, the Sussexes made a surprise return to the UK after spending the past six years living in California. Shortly after their arrival, they reportedly sought taxpayer-funded security, with their request currently under review.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to Britain with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for reasons they have not publicly disclosed. Since their return, the Sussexes have reportedly sought state-funded security despite stepping down as senior working royals. They are also allegedly considering a move back to California while their security arrangements remain under review.

During a conversation with TalkTV’s Charlie Rowley, royal biographer Angela Levin described the situation as “blackmail.” She said, “It’s blackmail, isn’t it? That’s what I think. If the two of them now, if you don’t give them exactly what they want, when they want, I think it’s a blackmail thing. If they do go back, I’d be delighted; they are real nuances and extremely unpleasant here (in the UK). Why should we pay them money for everything they’re doing? They’re not doing anything (for us).”

Rowley pushed back, pointing out that Harry served in the British Army. The journalist also noted that Harry still has “royal blood” and that his children are the King’s grandchildren. Based on those factors, he argued that the Sussexes should receive state-funded security. Levin disagreed, arguing that Harry was seeking a level of protection reserved for senior members of the Royal Family.

She replied, “Well, there’s levels of the people who look after people who need protection and he only wants the one that is the same that the king and the queen have and William and Katherine. It’s not given to anyone lower than that. So, if he gets someone who’s coming lower than that, it’s absolutely fine. But he wants guns, and he wants the best possible protection.” She again characterized his position as a “blackmail attitude.”
