It was said that the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec) had denied providing taxpayer-funded protection to them as they were non-working royals. But reports now claim that the couple demanded the service.

Recently, Richard Eden, Diary Editor for the Daily Mail, held a panel of royal experts to discuss the topic on “Palace Confidential.” Eden suggested that Harry and Meghan might be trying to put pressure on Ravec and the Home Office with their alleged US exit threats. “My goodness, that makes the whole thing seem like… some sort of blackmail,” he said.

Furthermore, Eden highlighted that if the couple received the public-funded security, then the implications could be “massive.” “If they get it, what that then means is Harry and Meghan can come and go, and they’ll still be getting police protection,” he added. “And also they can say that they want it in America.”

Meanwhile, one of the experts, Sarah Vine, argued that Harry could receive protection under one condition. “They will say you can have the protection, but you need to start doing some royal duties,” she said. According to her, the Duke might receive the opportunity, but not Markle. Moreover, others pointed out that the decision would depend on whether or not Harry could be a target.
