Princess Eugenie’s Newborn Daughter Bumped This Royal Down in the Line of Succession

Princess Eugenie welcomed her third child on August 3, 2026.

Her newborn daughter is 15th in line to the British throne.

This means that Eugenie’s uncle, Prince Edward, has been knocked down to 16th.

Princess Eugenie’s newborn daughter is officially 15th in line to the British throne. On August 3, the 36-year-old art gallery director and her husband Jack Brooksbank welcomed their third child, effectively shifting the royal family’s order of succession.

Eugenie’s children don’t have royal titles, but they’re still considered eligible for the throne. Her daughter now follows her older brothers, August and Ernest, who are 13th and 14th in line, respectively.

Eugenie is 12th, as her father, the former Prince Andrew, still holds the 8th spot, despite being stripped of his titles. She’s preceded by her older sister, Princess Beatrice, who is 9th. The 37-year-old royal is followed by her two daughters with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi—Sienna (10th) and Athena (11th).

The birth of Eugenie’s daughter, therefore, knocks her uncle Prince Edward down to 16th. Although he’s the youngest of Queen Elizabeth’s four children, the Duke of Edinburgh comes before his older sister, Princess Anne, as rules for the order of succession have been altered over the years.

As of 2013, absolute primogeniture applies for any child born after 2011, meaning that the eldest sibling inherits the throne regardless of gender. This rule, for example, allows Princess Charlotte to precede her younger brother, Prince Louis, in the order of succession.

On August 4, Eugenie revealed that she and her husband welcomed their third child, giving a first look at their newborn in an Instagram post.

“Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, a statement from the royal family began: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6:20 p.m., at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. The baby was born weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces.”

“Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news,” it concluded.
