Russell Brand pleads not guilty in court
Russell Brand appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London on Tuesday, February 24. He pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and sexual assault. According to the Crown Prosecution Service, the alleged offences occurred in 2009 involving two women.
Brand has previously pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault linked to the alleged incidents in London and Bournemouth between 1999 and 2005, which involved four women.
“These additional charges follow an investigation by the Metropolitan Police,” the CPS stated (via People). The original charges will be heard on a trial scheduled for June. The court will also hold a hearing next month to determine whether to add the new charges to the existing case against Brand. As per Reuters, Brand’s attorney stated that the actor requires additional time to respond to the new allegations.

Authorities first began investigating the sexual assault charges against Brand following the release of a collaborative report on the case by Channel 4’s Dispatches, The Sunday Times, and The Times. In response, Brand denied the accusations, maintaining that his relationships “were absolutely always consensual (via BBC).”
After establishing a career in stand-up comedy, Brand came to prominence as a presenter on the UK television show Big Brother’s Big Mouth. He hosted The Russell Brand Show on BBC Radio 2 and other radio programs on 6 Music before bagging roles in Hollywood films.
