Ryan Gosling will play Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a new standalone movie.

On Saturday, July 25, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and chief creative officer of Marvel, announced the news at San Diego Comic Con. Shawn Levy will direct the film, which is set to release in 2028.

Feige teased on the stage of Hall H that he has often been asked about when Ghost Rider and Gosling might join the MCU. That’s when he introduced the Project Hail Mary actor and brought him on stage, prompting an enthusiastic eruption of cheers.

“Wow, is this really happening?” Gosling, 45, said. “As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time.” He also said that “only one director” could bring Ghost Rider to the screen.

“I’m having the greatest flashback vibes here, because I was here two years ago when we showed Deadpool & Wolverine,’” Levy said. “I’ll never forget that night, because I was introduced to the greatest fans. Gosling is the absolute s***. I say that with tremendous respect.”

He added, “We spent a lot of time last year making Starfighter and the opportunity as Ryan started talking about this character. I was like, ‘Bro, let’s ride.’ We’ll see you in 2028!”
