Serena Williams is sharing that it can be a little hard leaving her daughters for a night out
The retired tennis pro shared that her family of four has a "nighttime routine" they all do together

Serena Williams admits it can be a little hard to leave her two daughters for a night out.
The retired tennis pro, 44, spoke with PEOPLE on the red carpet at the Baby2Baby Gala on Saturday, Nov. 8, and shared that it can be "difficult" leaving her two daughters at home to go to an event. Williams shares daughters Olympia, 8, and Adira, 2, with husband Alexis Ohanian.
"Well, tonight was definitely a little more difficult. I don't like to leave my kids," Williams admits. "I have a nighttime routine with them every day."
"I love Baby2Baby because they're really just about kids and helping so many babies and so many mothers as well. They're so supportive, so I just feel like it wasn't easy, but it's also nice. I get to come out and get to get dressed up, put on a little lip and have some fun with some amazing people."

At the event, Williams was honored with the Giving Tree Award, which is given annually to a female public figure who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving the lives of children in need. Williams received the award for her championing of women's health, particularly with Black maternal health.
Last month, Williams shared a carousel of photos on her Instagram which featured her daughter Olympia. In a few of the photos, the mom of two could be seen wearing a gold dress and posing next to her mini-me.
Olympia was pictured sitting almost at her mom's height, wearing a white T-shirt and navy pants. She had her hair in two buns on the top of her head and was pictured grimacing and crossing her arms.
Other snaps showed Williams' daughter, Adira, who sat in a TSA tray in the airport. Williams also included photos of Adira on the beach as they enjoyed a vacation together.
"At first they are sweet, then they get sweeter… Or something like that," Williams wrote in her caption.

This past July, Williams shared a hilarious video on her Instagram from her family vacation. In the clip, the former professional athlete could be seen wearing a light green matching tank top and mini skirt, which left a small bit of her midriff exposed.
As she posed and flipped her hair, her daughter Olympia reached out a hand from off-screen and yanked her skirt up to cover her stomach. "@OlympiaOhanian always keeping me in check! 😮💨," Williams wrote in her caption.
"Someone please let her know it’s #summer ? 🙄," joked the mom of two.
