Taylor Swift has reportedly taken legal steps to trademark her voice and a photograph to protect her identity against AI misuse. A few months ago, Matthew McConaughey also trademarked his voice amid rising concerns around AI, and it appears the pop icon has followed suit. In the age of artificial intelligence, it has become increasingly easy to replicate singers’ voices and use them without consent. To safeguard her identity and creative work, the “Opalite” singer has reportedly taken this step, highlighting growing concerns among celebrities about AI-related misuse.

Taylor Swift reportedly files three trademarks to protect her identity amid AI concerns

A report by Variety suggests that Taylor Swift has filed trademarks to protect her identity amid growing misuse of AI. On April 24, three trademark applications were submitted to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office by the singer’s company. Two of them cover her voice, including the phrases “Hey, it’s Taylor Swift” and “Hey, it’s Taylor.”

Meanwhile, the third trademark involves a photograph of the “Love Story” hitmaker. In the image, she is seen wearing a multi-colored bodysuit paired with silver boots. Swift is also seen holding a pink guitar with a black strap while standing on a pink stage. She appears in front of a microphone with purple lights in the background. With modern AI, it has become easier to generate fake images and replicate voices. This could then be used as content without permission.

By filing these trademarks, Swift is aiming to own and protect key aspects of her identity. This could also make it easier for her to take legal action if her identity is misused through AI-generated content.

In Swift’s case, AI has already been used to create fake images and misleading content without her consent. These filings are expected to help her maintain control over how her voice and image are used moving forward.

In a blog post, trademark attorney Josh Gerben wrote, “Theoretically, if a lawsuit were to be filed over an AI using Swift’s voice, she could claim that any use of her voice that sounds like the registered trademark violates her trademark rights.”
