Teddy Swims tells PEOPLE in the four months since welcoming his son with girlfriend Raiche Wright, he has learned that a key to fatherhood is simply "acting like you know what you’re doing, even if you don’t"
"Man, he's gotten to the place now over the last couple months where he's smiling and laughing and playing now. It's just so wonderful," says the "Lose Control" singer
Wright and Swims first revealed news of their pregnancy at the beginning of 2025, then subsequently shared that they gave birth to a son in June
Teddy Swims frames his idea of confidence in fatherhood not as certainty, but as intention, through simple phrasing anyone who has been in his shoes can resonate with: "Acting like you know what you’re doing, even if you don’t."
The 2025 Grammy nominee tells PEOPLE in conversation as part of his recently announced partnership with Booking.com that his relatively fresh-faced experience with his own offspring has profoundly changed him as an individual in just a few short months.
"For me, I think we got a 4-month-old, so as far as Mama goes, her job right now and for the foreseeable future is just kind of being along for the ride," Swims shares, highlighting the joyous emotional progress his son, shared with girlfriend Raiche Wright, is making in strides.

"Man, he's gotten to the place now over the last couple months where he's smiling and laughing and playing now. It's just so wonderful," notes the artist. "Now when I walk into a room, he looks at me and he smiles, and he knows I'm there."

In January 2025, Swims and Wright took to Instagram and announced they were expecting their first child together.
"So happy to finally release this news. Thank you for all the love. We have the most amazing support system, friends and family," Wright wrote on her Instagram Stories, accompanied by a photo of Swims cradling her growing baby bump, at the time.
That same month, Swims told the BBC, "We're due in June, and things are great. I think we're gonna crush it."

Now, a few months into parenting, Swims recognizes his newborn's early emotional development has manifested in some beautiful fatherhood moments. He recalls a recent instance where he "just put [his son] to sleep and he finally got to bed, and then he woke up in the room alone, so he's crying, and I went and picked him up … I was like, ‘Baby, you're not alone. Nobody's abandoning you, baby. Dad's right here.’ And he looked at me and smiled so big."

However, he jokes their loving relationship also comes with the typical difficulties of parenting: "I couldn’t get him to sleep for the next two hours because he was like, ‘Oh, dad’s here. That’s time to play.’ ”
The "Lose Control" singer further admits fatherhood “is a terrifying thing." He’s acutely aware of how easily he could “mess this up" — but through that awareness, he has quickly framed a steadfast perspective on how he wants his relationships with his son and girlfriend to work.
"I could so easily mess this up, but as long as I act in the right heart and the right mentality and the right intention … I just look like I know what I'm doing," he shares. Even with those natural fears, Swims remains grateful for all life has given him in terms of his family.
“Every time I look at him, I was like, ‘Hey.’ He just smiles at me. And I know he knows we have a relationship, which is something so incredible that’s only going to get deeper and more beautiful as it goes," he shares. “It’s such an amazing thing, and there’s nothing like it in the world."
Swims declares, "It is the f---ing coolest. It’s so fun.”
As for Wright, 29, the "Bad Dreams" artist sings her praises with a high level of heartfelt intent.

"There’s nothing sexier in the world. There’s nothing cooler than watching her be just everything that in some ways she was always meant to be," he says of seeing Wright step into motherhood.
Swims adds that it's still “so weird to see how second nature that was from just having that baby to just falling right into this thing.”
“Even down to the way that he cries, she just gets — I know what this means. I know what that moan means. I know what that cry means. She’s just so in tune and so close to that baby. It’s a part of her absolute being," he says.
As a whole, Swims surmises that admiring Wright as a mother is "such a wild thing to see firsthand and watch somebody because I don’t think she’s ever — it’s like she didn’t become a mother. She just was all of a sudden a mother. It wasn’t like no becoming of this. It was just like it happened and then she was a mother and she just got it."
“She just knows. And I think women are just — I mean, God is a woman. That’s all there is to it," he adds.
