Trump makes 'embarrassing' two-word comment about male athlete from Team USA at White House

U.S. President Donald Trump made an odd remark about Team USA's speed skater Jordan Stolz's "strong legs" during an event on Thursday evening at the White House for 2026 Winter Olympic athletes.
Trump made the comment while speaking to the guests from the White House, as he welcomed more than 120 athletes with Team USA who competed in the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games in Milan and Cortina, Italy, the White House said. Among the athletic sports represented were figure skating, curling, luge, speed skating, bobsledding, snowboarding and alpine skiing, among other sports, including several Paralympic athletes across various sports, among the most notable being 22-year-old Stolz.
"Also with us is the single most decorated American Olympian from the 2026 [Winter] Games, speed skater Jordan Stolz, I watched that one, too, strong legs. Very strong legs," Trump said, earning some laughter from the crowd as rows of athletes stood behind him.

"I said, 'How do I get my legs to look like that?'" Trump joked, adding about Stolz's achievements, "You were amazing and historic."
"Where is trump embarrassing himself now," an X user wrote.

White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said in a statement ahead of the event, "President Trump will proudly celebrate Team USA’s historic achievements at the Winter Olympics with a special reception at the People’s House. Our patriotic athletes showed the world American excellence, and their extraordinary performances united us all in our love of country."
Among the most celebrated athletes who participated in the event is Stolz. The American Olympian famously put his gold medal around Trump's neck during one of his rallies in Wisconsin in June. It comes less than a week before Wisconsin holds its high-stakes primary elections before the November midterms.

All eyes are watching to see how progressive challengers will fare against establishment figures in the race, a week after major wins in Michigan and several other states for the progressive left, including the historic nomination of Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan Senate against Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens on Tuesday.
Similar to other left-wing insurgents storming the political scene, including El-Sayed's contemporary and Trump's frenemy New York City Zohran Mamdani, the president accused El-Sayed of being part of a "communist" wave that threatens to bring “squalor” and “death” to America. Trump said Wednesday at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa in Las Vegas, "When I watch Abdul, he's full of s---".
The evening event comes after the U.S. women's hockey team turned down Trump's invitation to attend his State of the Union address in February in a massive blow to the White House, reflecting deep political polarization in the country. The women rejected Trump's offer after he joked that he would "probably be impeached" if he didn't also invite the women's team after speaking on the phone with the men's hockey team after their victorious win. None of the 2026 men's hockey team planned on attending today.
Estimates suggest that around 40% of the Team USA Winter Olympians and Paralympians will be attending the White House event.
Approximately 232 athletes represented Team USA in the 2026 Winter Olympics. The successful sporting event led the U.S. to earn 33 medals, a dozen of which were winning gold medals. Additionally, 72 Team USA Paralympians earned 24 medals, 13 of which were gold.
Notably, Team USA took home the most-ever gold medals during the 2026 Winter Olympics after securing 12 gold medals as well as 13 Paralympic gold medals, the latter of which was a record tie.
